This is a pleasant surprise. Richard O’Brien Rocky Horror Show creator at the Riff Raff statue, erected in his honour in Hamilton CBD, today, Tuesday the 29th of November 2011. Richard is attending a photo op to announce his New Zealand citizenship (to be acknowledged formally in December)  and to publicise a one off 70th birthday celebration concert at Founders Theatre It’s Party Time with Richard O’Brien on the 17th of March 2012  in support of Starship Foundation. Cool.

LEE, Peter. On November 21 2011 peacefully after losing the battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family, at his home in Cambridge. Aged 60 years. Darling husband of Judi, much loved father and father in law of Michael and Tracey, Natasha and Philip, Rebecca, and Robert and Anja; beloved Poppa of Isabella Rose, Ryder, Pepa, Max, and Milan. A huge loss to us all, dearly loved by all his family, many friends, and the community. Rest in Peace Pete. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St Peter’s Catholic Church, Cambridge on Friday November 25 2011 at 7.00pm. All welcome. A service to celebrate Peter’s life will be held at St Andrew’s Anglican Church, Cambridge on Saturday at 10.00am to be followed by private cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army (for homecare) would be appreciated and may be left in the donation box which will be provided at both services. Taupo Funeral Services Ltd FDANZ

By contrast The Nukes, our visitors and the headline act, sing their own songs, and aren’t they great. Three singer songwriters (David Parker (Rhythm Cage, The Parker Project), Ben Collier (Goldenhorse, The Magnets) and David Thiele) together produce music like that of Dave Dobbin, Don McGlashan and Peter Cape before them that ‘sings’ about us; bold and beautiful, subtle and warm and at times just a little bit silly. From the sing songy Peas and Carrots to the sublimely beautiful Feels Like Home and the ‘Cape Reinga song’. These songs sound like home to me; yours and mine. Stunning stuff! and the humour, self-effacing and very kiwi, in that fine tradition of ukukele performance art.

Heaps of fun. All power to more of this, please!
